Tuesdays with Tom: Finance Officers, Filing Cabinets & Booth 37

Conferences, conversations, and the clutter we all try to ignore

Tom’s on the road again—this time headed to Des Moines for the IMFOA Conference. If you’re reading this while sipping hotel coffee and eyeing your stack of handouts, make a note: Booth 37 is where the fun (and the practical advice) is happening.Tom’s not your typical tradeshow rep. He’s not scanning badges and speed-pitching services. He’s the guy asking, “What’s driving you crazy back at the office?” And more often than not, the answer is some variation of:

  • “Our retention schedule hasn’t been updated since the 90s.”
  • “We’ve got records in three different closets… and no one knows what’s in them.”
  • “We’re not sure what we’re allowed to shred.”

And that’s when Tom leans in and says: “Want to walk through it together?”

At IMFOA, the best conversations aren’t about products—they’re about problems worth solving.

IMFOA Conversations = Real Problems. Real Solutions.

Municipal finance officers are some of the most organized, detail-driven professionals around. But when it comes to document overload, even the best systems can get swamped. Old grant files, audit records, duplicate reports, unlabeled folders—paper piles up in even the best-run offices.

That’s why Tom’s here. Not to add to your to-do list, but to make it lighter. Whether it’s:

  • Scanning and indexing years of financial records
  • Helping build a retention plan that protects you from audit risk
  • Setting up off-site vault storage for overflow
  • Or simply providing a secure shred bin so your staff doesn’t have to babysit the office shredder

Tom will help you make it manageable—step by step, with a plan tailored to your office.

Swing by Booth 37—Let’s Talk About What You’re Avoiding

You don’t need to bring your records room with you (please don’t). But if you’ve got questions, concerns, or just a nagging feeling that something needs to be done—stop by and chat with Tom.

He’ll be at Booth 37 with coffee, a few good stories, and maybe even a free mug if you’re lucky.

Not attending IMFOA this week? No problem—email Tom at tom@advantageds3.com and he’ll come to you.

Just don’t be surprised if he opens a filing cabinet and says, “So, what’s going on in here?”

At Advantage Document Scanning & Storage Solutions, we don’t just manage paper—we help people get back their time, their space, and their sanity.

Tuesdays with Tom: Clear the Table… and the Records Room

Tuesdays with Tom: Clear the Table… and the Records Room Year-end cleanup, without the chaos As the holidays approach, Tom’s been hearing a lot of the same things during his visits: “We’re trying to clean up before the new year.” “We’ve got to make space—physically and mentally.” “Let’s just survive until Thanksgiving, then deal with […]

Tuesdays with Tom: “We’ve Been Meaning to Get Around to That…”

Tuesdays with Tom: “We’ve Been Meaning to Get Around to That…” From “we’ll get to it” to “it’s finally done” Tom’s been in the document game long enough to know what “We’ve been meaning to…” really means. It means there’s a records room in the back that no one’s opened since the last audit. It […]
